Dreamforce 2021: The future is a trusted enterprise

If you haven’t heard, Salesforce just concluded their annual Dreamforce event which brings together their customers, partners and employees for 3-days of education, fun, and service activities. Due to COVID-19, this year was unique in that instead of being a fully in-person event, it was also broadcast globally on their new Salesforce+ streaming service.

As the pandemic has changed the way the world conducts business and accelerated the need for digital transformation, it’s no surprise that Marc Benioff, Chairman and CEO of Salesforce, focused on this theme during his opening keynote.

But, beyond the cliché terms we’ve heard over and over throughout these past eighteen-months, Benioff presented the many crises the pandemic has unfolded – health, trust, sustainability, workforce, inequality – and he shared a playbook for how businesses can be, and should be, the platform for change in the world.

The Trusted Enterprise

He named this evolution as “The Trusted Enterprise,” and emphasized how it’s the responsibility of businesses to build back trust within our communities, deeming “we are trustblazers” – a play on their extensive trailblazer community.  The playbook for the trusted enterprise included:

  • Trust
  • Customer-first
  • Digital Headquarters
  • Health and safety
  • Sustainability

We’ve heard many news stories about how Salesforce has been living this playbook as an example – from their updated remote work policies to sending planes of PPE to India, but Benioff shared some key examples about how Salesforce has been helping customers accomplish these five principles, as well.

Jessica Tisch, Commissioner and Citywide CIO for the New York City Department of IT and Telecommunications was called to the stage and shared how New York City’s partnership with Salesforce quickly gave them the tools to recover from the pandemic after they were hit hard in March 2020. The initial platform was launched in less than 3-weeks to allow New York City to start contact tracing, and as needs grew and CDC and FDA requirements changed, the platform was agile enough to expand and adapt to help medical centers and businesses attain PPE and help residents get their vaccines when they became available. Through New York City’s Vax Finder platform built on Salesforce, they were able to administer 11 million shots and help 80% of adults in New York City become vaccinated.
